Director of Digital Services – Cedarville University – Cedarville, OH

Job Summary

The Digital Services Director oversees the operations of the university’s online repository which provides digital access to university scholarship, archival resources, and special collections. The Director manages the online repository platform that serves as the institutional repository, ensuring that its content is available to the campus community and accessible by researchers and scholars around the world. In addition, the Director coordinates the repository services that support other campus departments and manages the staff who help carry out this work.

Job Responsibilities

Manage the operations of the university’s digital repository by:

  • Overseeing the identification, preparation, and submission of content for the repository.
  • Ensuring repository materials and published content reflect appropriate scholarly communication practices including the areas of copyright, licensing, and author’s rights.
  • Selecting, supervising, and evaluating Digital Services staff and student employees.
  • Coordinating the activities of the Digital Services team including project oversight and task management.
  • Training and directing staff and student library employees engaged in Digital Services work.
  • Developing an expert familiarity with the digital platforms, technology, and equipment used in Digital Services and work closely with the vendors providing these systems.
  • Ensuring that repository services are effectively integrated in and accessible through library and university websites.
  • Preparing regular reports and assessments of repository services and usage.

Deliver repository services in support of library and University needs by:

  • Assisting in selectively providing digital access to University Archives materials.
  • Managing the online exhibits of Biblical Heritage Gallery and provide support for physical exhibits.
  • Providing publishing services for academic schools and departments and university faculty and students.
  • Maintaining close working relationships with the editors of university academic journals and lead the editorial board of Channels.
  • Expanding the repository holdings of faculty and student scholarship and creative activity and ensure sustainable, accessible storage of such materials.
  • Promoting the effective use of repository services and materials for University needs.

Educational/Experiential Requirements

Education

  • Required: bachelor’s degree
  • Preferred: degree in library or information science, technology/computer science, digital communication/media, data management/systems, or preservation/archival studies

Experience

  • Required: experience working with institutional repositories or archives, digital publishing/scholarly communication, academic libraries, or project management
